A painting with a real face! (Darth Maul doesn't count. He has tattoos that hide facial features.) I wanted to paint Loki with his mouth sewn shut. I don't know why. Some twisted part of me likes that part.

Let me know what you think! I'm not happy with the coloring because it made the separation of hair and skin difficult. But overall, I think it was good practice.

Process: Sketch using grid method and a reference, then painted in photoshop with Adesso tablet. Not a tracing or a paint-over. My own work.

Loki character (from comics) belongs to Marvel. Tom Hiddleston belongs to himself :)

Why does abused-Loki make us fangirls happy. It's sick, I hate it so much.
*cries* Lokiii....aahhh....We're so terrible!

Ha ha I don't know! I think people like it because of its complex issues. I personally enjoy the symbolism, but that's just me :)

I like the symbolism too, and I for some reason enjoy having my feels chopped up and thrown into a Magic Bullet and made into a feel-parfait.
It makes me so sad because you wanna help poor Loki ><

ha ha yes. nice analogy. feel-parfait. i like it!

at the same time, though, i'd like to see loki go through his punishment and see how it redeems/transforms him, if at all. maybe he gets more evil and angry. how does that change his view of the universe? things like that. getting into the psyche of a fictional character is very fun!

Yes, true that! And yes it is fun! It helps you understand the character a lot more. I started to go into a long synopsis of the Psychology of Loki Laufeyson when a girl told me that Loki is mean and like, evil and stuff. So basically I said
"He's not evil he's just misunderstood! None of you will ever understand his pain! I'm dissapoint!"

ha ha very true. although, it would be interesting to examine what exactly makes loki, or any villain for that matter, turn to violence to cope with their pain. for example, why did loki decide to try to raise an army and rule the world even though everyone around him still makes it clear that they accept him despite his parentage? super interesting to me at least :)

I happen to have a love for mad characters, because they're so complex and fun to examine. And once you do that, you find yourself relating to them and loving them all the more.

I feel like i'm stalking your art... lol
but I absolutely love this piece, It makes me cringe a little..I don't do well with blood..
I wonder if in Thor 2, Thor or Odin will sew Loki's lips. They do so in the comics, so it could happen. :)

it's ok. I don't mind the stalking :)

i don't think they'll sew Loki's lips in a movie. that just seems way too gruesome to put on screen without the film getting an R rating, which I know Marvel won't do. I think the gag at the end of Avengers was kind of an allusion to that, but I'm pretty sure that's all we'll get. Just my opinion, though :)

:D haha good, you're art is so amazing that I have to stalk it!

You make a good point, that would be pretty disturbing to some...if not most viewers. I know Tom was signed to play Loki a total of 5 or 6 times.. I can't remember exactly. 2 down.

It is a good point indeed. But I'd honestly like to see it just because...it'd take the films to another level like The Dark Knight did.
And I like creepy things lol.

why thank you! It means so much to hear that! I've only been doing artsy things since December (before that, I had a lot of school, and yet more to come!) so it's nice to hear some feedback!

Have you read any of the Thor comics? I just received my copies of Journey into Mystery: Fear Itself, and they're pretty cool!

You are most certainly welcome! You've only been doing art since December? And you're this amazing? I've been drawing for years and I'm no where near as good as you! /jealous. Well, I look forward to your future art pieces!

I have actually, I really like them! I have read the comic where Loki does get his lips sewn.. For some reason that's when I've been a Loki fan. Way before Tom played him. lol! You'll enjoy them for sure!

You're too sweet! Yes, I've only been drawing since december. I've been doing collages and stuff for a little while, but I started sketching in November and got a tablet in December (after which I started painting). Then I started on shoes and just went where my imagination took me! I'm still learning. I read a LOT of tutorials and try a LOT of new things. I'm so tickled to hear that other people think I'm good at it :)

Which is the comic where Loki gets his lips sewn? I have a pic of one panel, but I don't know which story arc it is.

give me some of your talent? I've tried the whole tutorials thing, I've decided that doesn't help me..but whatever works I guess. :) Maybe I should get a tablet.. :x

I'd have to look it up, I'll send you a note as soon as i find it..it's been too long.

Hee hee I'd love to share! I should clarify my previous comments since I feel like I conveyed the wrong message (like, I just picked up a pencil in November, which isn't the case. I read my previous comments and that's how I sound and it bugs me. I hope I don't disappoint you!): I never really doodled when I was younger, but when I had to draw something, I always was a little bit more artistically inclined than the average bear. I picked up doodling in a notepad last spring (see my gallery folder "Old Sketches," which are mostly doodles from Spring/Summer 2011). I should have written I've only been drawing "digitally" and "seriously" since November (sorry about that!) but started doodling in Spring 2011.

Thanks for the encouragement! You're most kind :) Hope this clarification doesn't put a damper on your opinion of my work!

This is actually a brilliant piece of work if you know your mythology. According to Norse myth, Loki pissed off some dwarves as a child by talking to much or lying (I can't quite remember the details) and said dwarves saw fit to sew his mouth shut as punishment. Beautiful work!

wow, it looks great! (poor loki, though :noes:) i love how there's texture of his collar :la:~ looks so cool :D
i'd only suggest a few things, i think his left eyelid is a bit too pointed or sharp at the top? and maybe the stitches on his lips look a bit 2d and a little unreal, maybe the threads could be a bit curvier? :) those are just little things i saw... but overall it looks totally a-ma-zing ^___________^ (seeing the process shots was very interesting as well! :D)
